CRC Product News: Kingpin Recall - #3250 and 3228

CRC Kingpin Recall - January 10

CRC Kingpin Recall - January 10, 2011

We have heard some reports recently of kingpin failures on part numbers 3250 (12th scale) and 3228 (10th scale). After testing our last production batch, we have found some kingpins in this production run to fall below our stress test standards. Please refer to the picture below to identify the suspect kingpins.

Click the picture for a larger view.

While any part will fail relative to the impact it receives, we feel that the bending resistance and general strength of this pin is below our minimum standards and we will replace this version with our new super strong production batch (#2 above). Please send pins that fall into the description #3 above to;

CRC

6785 Martin Street

Rome, NY 13440

Please include your name and address. One recall shipment per customer, so please gather all the parts that you may suspect in one shipment.

We regret any issues that this soft kingpin has caused.

CRC Articles: Using IRS ride height adjusters in the Gen

Using IRS ride height adjusters in the Gen X
We assume the IRS ride height adjusters were made intentionally on the small side to accommodate the overly tight rear bulkheads from Associated. However, you can use your IRS inserts very simply by making a quick and easy modification. This same modification will also tighten up other types of inserts that may have worn slightly and become loose in the pod plate.

Using cutting pliers, slightly squeeze the plastic insert on the outer perimeter.

Do not cut through the insert, just make a small dimple.

Do this top, bottom, left and right. The insert will now be nice and snug.

If necessary, you can repeat this for a perfect fit each time.

This simple modification has already proven to work well with many racers, modifying their IRS inserts without issue.
